HISTORY OF JANS

1975 (S50) October

Japanese Association for Nursing Programs in University (Nihon Kangokeidaigaku Kyougikai) was established, comprising 6 institutions: St. Luke's College of Nursing, Chiba University, University of Tokyo, Nagoya Health University, Kochi Women's University and University of the Ryukyus.

1979 (S54) June15

First General Assembly of the Japanese Association for Nursing Programs in University discusses the establishment of a nursing academy.

1981 (S56) July25

The Japan Academy of Nursing Science (JANS) is officially established, comprised of the Editorial Board, General Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, Membership Committee and the Overseas and PR Committee.

1981 (S56) December 6

First Academic Conference held at the National Institute of Public Health (Tokyo). (Chairperson Shigeko Hayashi)

1981 (S56) December

First issue of the Journal of the Japan Academy of Nursing Science is published, recording the lectures of the First Academic Conference.

1982 (S57)

Created Ministry of Education Scientific Research Grants Application Committee, applied for registration with the Science Council of Japan, and applied for details to the Scientific Research Grants Subcommittee.

1985 (S60)

Formed the Research Activities Committee.

1986 (S61)

Formed the Steering Committee for Scientific Nursing Terminology.

1987 (S62) September

The Japan Academy of Nursing Science registered with the Science Council of Japan.

1988 (S63)

The Science Council of Japan Academic Society Registration Promotion Committee changed its name to the Committee for the Science Council of Japan.Formed the International Activity Promotion Committee.

1991 (H3)

Formed the Nursing Ethics Committee.

1992 (H4) October 2-4

First International Nursing Research Conference held in Tokyo. (Chairperson Yasuko Higuchi)

1993(H5) January

Administration matters such as membership management are entrusted to the Business Center for Academic Societies Japan.

1995 (H7) September 26-28

Second International Nursing Research Conference held in Kobe. (Chairperson Hiroko Minami)

1996 (H8) - 1998 (H10)

Established the Disaster Nursing Research Special Committee. (3 years)

1998 (H10) September 16-18

Third International Nursing Research Conference held in Tokyo. (Chairperson Misako Kojima)

1998 (H10) – 1999 (H11)

Established the Future Structure Special Committee. (2 years)

2000 (H12)

Formed the Incorporation Promotion Committee.

2001 (H13)

Joined the Japan Liaison Society of Nursing Science (now the Japan Society of Nursing Science).

2001 (H13) August 29-31

Fourth International Nursing Research Conference held in Mie.
(Chairperson Sumiko Maehara)

2002 (H14) January

* Established independent JANS office to undertake JANS office administration previously handled by the Business Center for Academic Societies Japan.
* The Incorporation Promotion Committee changed its name to Committee for Incorporation Preparation.
* Formed the Selection Committee for Outstanding Manuscript Awards.* Formed the Social Contribution Committee.

2003 (H15)

Formed the Japan Journal of Nursing Science Editorial Board.

2004 (H16) January

Established the General Affairs Committee to oversee general affairs, accounting, membership applications and public relations.

2004 (H16) June

Launch of the Japan Journal of Nursing Science, Japan's first nursing society periodical publication in English.

2004 (H16) August 29-31

Fifth International Nursing Research Conference held in Fukushima. (Chairperson Yoko Nakayama)

2005 (H17)

Accompanying revision of the Science Council of Japan Law, the Committee for the Science Council of Japan changed its name to the Committee for Promoting Nursing Science.

2005 (H17)

Joined the Social Insurance Union Societies Related to Nursing.

2007 (H19) January 30

Established the Limited Liability Intermediate Corporation Japan Academy of Nursing Science.The Committee for Incorporation Preparation changed its name to the Public Interest Incorporation Promotion Committee.

2008 (H20)

Duties of the Committee for Promoting Nursing Science are taken over by the Japan Society of Nursing Science, and the Committee disbands.Formed the Public Relations Committee.
