Membership Qualification Standards

Article 1.
The Board of Directors will approve membership in accordance with the standards specified in Articles 10, 10.2 and 11 of the Bylaws of the Japan Academy of Nursing Science．

Article 2.
Regular membership will be approved for persons who satisfy one of the following criteria, and Article 5 of the Member Qualification Standards.

(1)A person specializing in nursing science, who is engaged in education or research at a university or college (including junior college).
(2)A person who practices nursing and has made a contribution to nursing science.
(3)A person who has made a research contribution related to nursing science.
(4) A person who is interested in research, activities and education in the field of nursing.

Article 3.
Student membership will be approved for persons who satisfy all of the following criteria.

(1) Students enrolled in a basic nursing education course.
(2) Students introduced by at least one regular member.

Article 4.
Approval for Supporting Membership will be granted to individual persons or organizations contributing to the fields of nursing, healthcare and medical welfare.

Article 5.
The eligibility criteria required for regular membership of this Academy shall satisfy any of the following items.

(1) One or more papers published in academic journals related to nursing science (specify the title of the paper, the name of the published journal, volume, page, date of publication, and names of co-authors including the applicant.)
(2) One or more books related to nursing science (specify the chapter/division)
(3) Master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation related to nursing science, or independent research project paper in place of the master’s thesis.
(4) Has a recommendation from a regular member.

Article 6.
Membership Qualification Standards shall be amended by resolution of the Representatives meeting in accordance with Article 13 of the Bylaws of the Japan Academy of Nursing Science.

Supplementary Provisions
1 Current amendments to the Membership Qualification Standards take effect from January 1, 2010.
2 “Requirements for research contributions at the time of membership application” are discontinued on December 31, 2009 because of amendments.

Current amendments to the Membership Qualification Standards take effect from August 24, 2010.

Supplementary Provisions
Current amendments to the Membership Qualification Standards take effect from June 15, 2024, however, changes in Articles 1 and 3 and others related to the establishment of the new student member qualifications will come into effect from January 1, 2025.

Supplementary Provisions
1 Partially revised on November 30, 2025, and effective as of the same date.
2 Student members who were admitted under the qualification standards prior to the revision shall remain valid until the expiration date stated on their student identification or other relevant certification.
